RIP Barbara Hale (1922-2017)

Anyone who knows old movies and television is familiar with Hale’s impressive list of credits. She can be spotted in some uncredited roles before playing her first credited part in Higher and Higher (1943) opposite Frank Sinatra in his first film role. She then appeared in some Falcon entries until she began to star in important films like The Boy with Green Hair (1948), The Window (1949), and Jolson Sings Again (1949). Her impressive list of leading men at this time includes James Stewart, Robert Young, Larry Parks, Arthur Kennedy, Richard Greene, Mario Lanza, Rock Hudson, Joel McCrea, James Cagney, and her husband Bill Williams who she married until he died in 1992. Hale then became more prominent on television and today is remembered for playing Della Street on Perry Mason (1957-66) alongside Raymond Burr in the title role. She later appeared in Airport (1970) with an all-star cast. She died yesterday at the age of 94.
